As the Mrs South Africa class of 2023 prepares for the last leg of their pageant journey, the stunning group of 30 finalists headed down to the South Coast this month for the programme’s Annual Lifestyle Challenge at the luxurious Wild Coast Sun resort. The Mrs South Africa programme is more than just a pageant for married women. It is a platform that celebrates and empowers women from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and abilities. With the support of mainline sponsor Dallmayr Coffee, Mrs SA offers participants a transformation journey that helps them discover and unleash their full potential, and become a voice of change in their communities.
The Lifestyle Challenge is a four-day event, jam-packed with a range of activities designed to develop the finalists’ skills, build their confidence, and help promote their mental and physical well-being. It is also a key opportunity for contestants to bond with each other and enjoy some light-hearted fun.
“I truly enjoyed spending time with my finalist sisters & getting to know everyone a little better. This amazing weekend gave me an opportunity to escape the hustle & bustle of my life as a busy mom, wife & entrepreneur. Working with the amazing Mrs South Africa styling team & camera crew gave me an opportunity to feel like a super star, who would have thought my last 2 weeks leading to my 40th would be as fabulous as this”, says Terisa Hsu-lee, a 2023 Mrs South Africa finalist.
The 40 year old multi-disciplinary, beautypreneur & passionpreneur has called Johannesburg home for the past 22 years, and has dedicated her life helping her community & empowering other women. “I entered this amazing married women empowerment platform to showcase myself to the world. Being selected as the only #southafricaneese Mrs South Africa top 30 finalist, I believe I can be an example to encourage other women from all walks of life, to step out of their comfort zones, be fearless & embrace opportunities of growth & community service. I believe the Mrs South Africa platform has given me a larger voice to create awareness of the menstrual cup as a 3rd period option, bringing dignity to GBV victims, sharing the history & culture of the #southafricanesse community, mental health awareness, gaining more support for animal rights & welfare, raising awareness of global warming, and an opportunity to encourage more entrepreneurship in our youth, whilst working towards being a conduit for showcasing our South African & African business’s & talents to the world. ” she explains.
The Mrs South Africa team was treated to a scenic drive down to Wild Coast Sun in a convoy of Chery cars sponsored by Chery Krugersdorp. The finalists then enjoyed a weekend filled with team-building exercises, and workshops focused on leadership development and personal care in preparation for the Finale Crowning Show in November 2023. They also took part in photo and video shoots, with styling by Kryolan Makeup and Espavo Hair Design. Mrs South Africa’s newly announced sponsor, Caribbean Tan further treated the ladies to a pre-shoot tanning session, to give them a mesmerising glow for their swimwear shoot. Some of the other activities included a Slimz fitness challenge, where the women tested their physical strength and endurance; a catwalk challenge, where they showcased their style and personality; and a team leadership challenge, where they demonstrated their ability to lead and help others. The staff at the Wild Coast Sun resort hosted the finalists in style and luxury, with spoils throughout the weekend.
“We would not be able to make such a significant impact in our finalists’ lives if it were not for incredible sponsors such as Dallmayr Coffee, that consistently go out of their way to support our ladies. We are truly grateful to the incredible Wild Coast Sun resort team who ensured the weekend was a memorable experience for everyone involved,” says Joani Johnson, Chief Executive Officer of Mrs South Africa
“The weekend was another life-changing experience filled with self-discovery and personal growth for our lovely and powerful ladies. Above all, it was a fun and rewarding experience that helped to prepare our ladies for the upcoming grand finale and beyond.” The Mrs South Africa finalists now have a full two months to prepare for the finals in November, beginning with the highly anticipated Pageant Week from 15 to 18 November, followed by the Preliminary Judging Competition on 16 November, and ending off their journey with the spectacular Final Crowning on 17 November. Tickets for these events will go on sale on Ticketpro shortly.
