We recently visited Nonnas in Nelson Mandela Square, the food was incredible and the staff treated us really well. We liked the restaurant so we decided to do a quick Q&A with them:

 

 What inspired the renovation of Nonnas? 

 The owner of Nonnas Nelson Mandela Square always intended on offering a premium halaal dining experience that would be in the league of high end non-halaal peers. He wanted to create a space where exquisite food would be complimented with beautiful décor and quality service. Every element in our new store has been personally curated to offer our target customer an exceptional experience. He’s taken inspiration from the leading dining experiences in London and Dubai, whilst including the authentic Italian elements that Nonnas stands for. We aim to consistently innovate to deliver a world class dining experience within our beautiful new space. 

 

 How would you describe the new Nonnas Nelson Mandela Square? 

 Luxury, world class, innovative, quality dining and impeccable service. 

We offer various dining experiences to cater for all dining expectations of our patrons. Our beautiful main floor caters for all general dining needs. Our “La Tavola di Maria” or VIP table is an exclusive, private space – we will even curate your own personal menu. We have also created Dolce Vita by Nonnas, where all your sweet requests, from drinks to desserts, are catered for. 

 

 Who is your target customer? 

 Our target customer is a confident diner who is looking for a luxurious food journey and willing to explore an authentic Italian four course dining experience. Our menu is designed to elevate the customers palate with delectable dishes from the Amalfi coast, Napoli, Milan, Rome, and through to a Tuscan kitchen. 

 

 What is the most interesting dish on your menu? 

 Our steaks are legendary!! We have also introduced a new Dolce Vita menu with some very special and unique handcrafted drinks and mocktails. Our new crab pasta and veal schnitzel for our VIP table is simply sublime as well. 

 

 What is your favourite item on your menu? 

 Eating the authentic Italian way, my go-to dining experience would begin with Gamberi e Calamari in Pomodoro, followed by our perfectly cooked medium Ribeye or grilled queen prawns, and then our new Cote d’or chocolate mousse with Whispers and Crunchie, of course paired with one of our signature mocktails. Italian dining is a luxurious experience, and this is my everyday luxury. 

 

 What is your favourite drink on your menu? 

 The Sandton Sunset mocktail was personally designed by Johannesburg’s leading mixologists to capture the perfect sunset view that our restaurant delivers every evening. I’d also try our virgin Sangria as well … thank me later. 

 

 What’s the next step for Nonnas Nelson Mandela Square? 

 We have only just begun putting South Africa on the map of global gastronomy. We’re not done yet… watch this space.
