According to Lunga Patso, a process engineer at the Water Institute of South Africa, the country will experience a water crisis, with many areas, including the Eastern Cape and Western Cape, experiencing shortages.

In Nelson Mandela Bay, over two million residents are at risk of having their taps dry up due to the lack of proper infrastructure and mismanagement by the government.

According to the Green Drop report released by the DWAS, over 30% of the country’s wastewater systems are considered to be in critical condition.

Various draft legislation has been introduced to address the country’s water security and quality issues. The Minister of Water and Environmental Affairs stated that the legislation will be published soon for public consultation. This will enable the government to increase the investment in the country’s bulk water resources.
