Growthpoint Properties has officially opened the Sandton Drive Link Bridge, a new R26 million pedestrian connection aimed at improving accessibility and walkability in Johannesburg’s leading financial district. The bridge creates a direct, secure pedestrian route over Sandton Drive, linking Growthpoint’s flagship office development, The Place at 1 Sandton Drive, with Sandton City and surrounding mixed-use spaces in Sandton Central.

The project was delivered in collaboration with key stakeholders, including Sandton City, the Sandton Central Management District and the City of Johannesburg, following extensive planning and coordination. Designed with safety, accessibility and durability in mind, the bridge incorporates stainless-steel balustrades, a central glass-covered viewing deck and integrated lighting that enhances its visibility within the Sandton skyline. Beyond its functional purpose, the structure adds a contemporary architectural feature to the precinct.

More than simply connecting two major destinations, the bridge strengthens integration between commercial, retail, residential and public spaces within Sandton Central and the adjacent Sandown area. It also improves pedestrian access for visitors to nearby institutions, including the United States Consulate.

The R26 million investment highlights Growthpoint’s continued commitment to infrastructure-led urban enhancement, supporting improved mobility, tenant convenience and long-term property value in South Africa’s most prominent business node.
