JOBURG – Bullying has evolved from name-calling and teasing to violence and verbal abuse especially in the social media space.

The month of October is known to have a lot of important awareness dates for crucial social issues and illness that have been addressed.

One of these social issues that has a major impact on our society is the act of bullying.

Bullying is a form of harm or intimidation towards another human being that has evolved from name-calling and teasing to violence and verbal abuse – especially in the social media space. World Bullying Prevention Month is an important social issue which many institutions need to address.

Life coach, Jason Firmani, who has been an advocate against bullying for many years, provided helpful guidelines to help eradicate bullying within schools.

Firmani’s guidelines in dealing with the bully:

  • Email the principal in detail – include all incidents of the bullying, witnesses, name of bully etc.
  • If you have had any meetings with school faculty, please add what was discussed to the email
  • Request, in writing, what the principal’s intentions are going forward or resolution
  • All schools have an anti-bullying policy – request a copy
  • All of the above comes with a 48-hour timeline in which the principal has to respond in writing.

Ignoring the issue will only make things worse. Take a stand against bullying and save a life.
